As the situation with COVID-19 evolves that mandate may eventually be waived by some states. But, generally, the answer is yes. If you are a resident of Oklahoma you will need to be seen by a professional counselor who is licensed as a mental health therapist in the state of Oklahoma.

Most likely yes. Most of Blue Cross Blue Shield plans cover online counseling. However, it is important for you to call Blue Cross and Blue Shield to ask about your specific plan to make sure that online therapy is covered. If it is covered, you most likely will have the same benefits as you would if you were to see a therapists in-person. You may have a deductable which needs to be met and a copay. However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak Blue Cross Blue Shield has waived the co-pay for many of their plans.

Before the COVID-19 outbreak Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma required for mental health therapist to be contracted with MDlive, an online telehealth platform, to see it's members. However, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma has temporarily suspended that requirement, allowing mental health counselors to use any HIPAA compliant online telehealth platform.

At Edmond Counseling and Professional Development, we will call your insurance and find out your online counseling benefits for you. We will then inform you of the information we have received before scheduling your first online counseling session.
